The Hubert H. Humphrey Center for Social Research,
established in 1978, is the principle inter-disciplinary
oragnization within the Faculty of Humanities and Social
Sciences, engaged in activities to promote the social,
political and cultural development of the Negev region and
Israel.
The Institute participates in a wide range of activities,
including: Research, model program development and
evaluation of key social and human service issues of
regional, national and international relevance. The Humphrey
Institute has set itself the task of promoting research
projects which will set the national agenda for examining
the social, cultural and political implications of the
current Israel-Arab peace process.
Promoting values of democracy and political tolerance by
means of research and outreach programs, using the expertise
and guidance of the university faculty to manage programs in
local schools and municipalities.
Environmental awareness and the growth of a solid
environmental lobby tas a means of promoting the growth and
development of the Negev only through programs which are not
harmful to the local ecological balance.
Leadership and self help skills development among new
immigrants, development town residents, Bedouin teachers and
youth workers, and professional social service agency
personnel, as well as management staff of key regional
businesses and industries.
Knowledge sharing and information transfer through regional,
national and international cLInferences, symposia, workshops
and lectures.
Invitation of scholars of international repute under the
Humphrey Visiting Fellowship program.
Promoting inter-departmental research and cooperation within
the Faculty of Social Sciences, including a regular faculty
seminar on issues of social and political concern to Israeli
society.

Development. The Center for Education in Technological
Society. The Center for Human Services Development. The Unit
for Evaluation, Reseaerch and Development in Institutions.
The Humphrey Center also works closely with the following
institutions: The Program for Political Science at Ben
Gurion University. The Negev Center for Regional Development.
The ICIES Environmental Research Center.
